I’ve been looking through Jersey City’s plan for on-street bicycle facilities. The plan was made public in 2012. It serves as the blueprint for ~60-miles of bike lanes and sharrows that Mayor Fulop has pledged to implement by mid-2014, apparently with a few changes.

Jersey City’s new Mayor Steven Fulop is making good on the implementation of new bike facilities announced by his predecessor! In December 2012, Jersey City officials announced that the city would implement 54.7 miles of on-street bike facilities, including 35.2 miles of bike lanes and 19.5 miles of sharrowed bike routes. The 2012 press release listed […]

Great news! Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop has made good on the city’s pledge to begin implementing new bike facilities in September 2013. This weekend saw the first new bike markings: half-completed sharrows on Old Bergen Road. Jersey City residents may be unfamiliar with sharrows, as I think that, when completed, these will be the […]

Last night, Wednesday September 11th 2013, on a unanimous 9-0 vote, the City Council of Jersey City approved funding for bicycle infrastructure. The ordinance (see below for full text) re-directs $1M in unspent capital bond dollars. These capital dollars now will be used for three purposes: Speed Bumps: “installation of speed humps …including milling …pavement […]

Bikas is continuing our series examining Jersey City’s bicycle facility plan. I recently finished bicycling each of the streets designated to receive bike lanes or sharrows during re-surfacing in summer 2013, and confirmed that, though most of the streets have already been re-surfaced, none of the new bicycle facilities have been implemented yet. First, a […]

It looks like Jersey City is backing off of its commitment to a handful of new bike lanes that were due to be implemented starting June 2013. When I wrote to new Jersey City Mayor Fulop in July 2013, I had thought that new bike lanes were probably just delayed. I live in downtown Jersey […]

Within the past week or so, the city of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) added 2.7 miles of bike lane on Burbank Boulevard. The new Burbank Blvd lanes extend from Radford Avenue (just west of the 170 Freeway) to Hazeltine Avenue (just east of Van Nuys Boulevard.)

The city of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) recently striped 0.6-mile of new bike lanes on Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The lanes extend from Crestknoll Drive to Rinaldi Street. They’re in the Los Angeles City community of Sylmar, along Sylmar’s southern border. The lanes are located immediately east of the 5 Freeway just south of […]
