Recent Bike Lanes Close Gap on La Tuna Canyon Road

New bike lanes on La Tuna Canyon Road at Sunland Blvd

The city of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) recently striped new bike lanes on La Tuna Canyon Road in Sun Valley. The new La Tuna bike lanes extend 0.26 miles from Sunland Boulevard to Glenoaks Boulevard.

In itself, this quarter mile isn’t a lot of distance, but it does connect up a few existing facilities. It closes a gap between existing lanes on La Tuna Canyon Road (2 miles – near Elben Avenue to Sunland Blvd) and existing lanes on Tuxford Street turning into Roscoe (2.3 miles – Glenoaks Blvd to Whitsett Avenue/Arleta Avenue), so this new quarter mile completes continuous  four-and-a-half mile long facility. The new La Tuna lanes also connect with existing bike lanes on Glenoaks Boulevard.

This project was appproved in the city’s bike plan and 5-Year Implementation Strategy. Its completion was announced via this LADOT document which states the lanes were completed April 6th 2012.
